Abstract. It was the first study published on the marble, limestone, granite and porphyry quarries in Roman Spain. In his splendid monograph of 1971, Raniero Gnoli cited only one spanish marble, the 'broccatello' of Tortosa near Tarraco (1), but could actually be discovered nearly 30 (2), being the most important Almadén de la Plata (3), Macael, Borba-Estremoz, Coín-Mijas, Alconera, or Tortosa.
